Whether you're currently working with a goal of finding a new position or are unemployed in desperate need of work, the job search can be frustrating. The longer it goes on, the more mentally and physically draining the process becomes. Consider these five tips to make your job search a little less stressful.

1. Step Away From the Computer

While you should be spending a lot of time online during your job search, it's important you do some offline searching as well. When you're not scouring job boards and submitting online applications, take a break from technology. Attend job fairs to meet potential employers in person and get your name out there. Reach out to previous co-workers or friends in the industry to inquire about job openings. When you expand your network, you can come closer to finding a position that suits your interests.

2. Customize Every Resume

A successful job search is all about selling yourself, and your resume is your first opportunity to impress hiring managers. Never send a generic resume. Every cover letter and resume you send should be tailored specifically for the position for which you're applying. Use keywords from the job posting, do you research on the potential employer, and include achievements that are relevant to the industry.

3. Create a Job Search Schedule

Think of your job search as your current job. Lay out a schedule for the day to include all the tasks you need to complete. Set an alarm, shower, and get dressed for your day. Set aside time blocks for browsing job postings, printing cover letters, reworking resumes, and following up with hiring managers. Keep your job search activities to business hours so you can connect easily.

4. Use Social Media to Your Advantage

Hiring managers are likely to Google your name before they call you for an interview, so make sure your online presence is an impressive one. Your LinkedIn profile is a great way to advertise yourself to potential employers. Ensure it's up-to-date and in line with your resume. Pay attention to everything you post on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and get rid of anything that paints you in a bad light. Share articles that relate to your industry to show your passion and enthusiasm.

5. Give Yourself a Break

While the job search requires a great deal of effort, it can't be your entire life. Make time for fun so you don't feel burnt out. Take exercise breaks throughout the day to break up your schedule. Grab dinner with friends in the evening or go see a movie.

Don't let the job search get you down. All it takes is one successful interview to turn everything around. These five tips can make sure you're well on your way to landing the job you want. What job search tips can you share?
