The primary responsibility of the co-op is to work with the Application Engineering and Advanced Processing Groups to support Polycarbonate business within Bayer MaterialScience NAFTA. Working at the Pittsburgh campus, the incumbent will prepare models for Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) analysis and with increasing experience perform engineering simulations and part performance testing. The incumbent may also be called upon to assist with injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming and testing activities using a variety of processing equipment and auxiliary support systems. The undergraduate co-op program provides increasing challenging assignments commensurate with academic training and individual ability to assume job responsibility.
The incumbent will: . Construct Computer Aided Engineering models for structural and mold filling simulations; . Perform Computer Aided Engineering analysis; . Illustrate design concepts using Solidworks CAD software; . Generate and analyze material test data; . Conduct mechanical and physical test; . Compile reports using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The selected candidate is required to possess the following: . Enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program with a major in Mechanical Engineering, Plastic Engineering or related discipline; . Completion of sophomore year; . Part of a college Co-Op program; . Basic understanding of the principles behind Computer Aided Engineering analysis; . Familiarity with a CAD package such as ProEngineer or SolidWorks.
Preferred Qualifications: . Knowledge of finite element analysis and plastic fabrication.
