Construction Engineer Job Responsibilities



  • Manages project development from initial site design through as-built drawings.

  • Projects include cell sites, switch facilities, In Bound Collocations and In Building projects.

  • Including drawing review for compliance with civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical standards.

  • Project feasibility, value engineering, zoning, FAA/FCC survey work, drawings, certifications, permit approvals, and contract administration.

  • The position Manages construction activities related to the development of multiple, simultaneous network infrastructure projects including distributing bid packages, coordinating bid walk; awarding job; and monitoring progress; providing regular status updates; and resolving issues.

  • Provides full financial management of all projects from initial proposal/bid through receipt of final product or service; funding projects; processing purchase orders; reviewing work; and ensuring payment and final balance in purchasing software.

  • Provides leadership and guidance by practicing Core Values including: creating and evaluating ways to gain financial efficiencies; creating process improvements; securing assets; and being accountable for vendor payments.

  • Evaluates ways to save money; challenges the ways things are done when there may be a better way to perform ones responsibilities; deals with peers and vendors with respect; exhibits the utmost integrity especially when in a position working with vendors and is responsible for payment of the vendors; and is accountable for ones actions.

  • Provides the necessary direction for individual/team growth and development. Demonstrates professionalism by responding to emails promptly, actively participating in meetings, ability to explain issues clearly, providing updates, maintaining records, working with other departments, and understanding the impact of their job to the overall business.

  • Establishes quality assurance methods, procedures, standards, and technical training related to site design and construction.

  • Evaluates new products, services, and vendors.

  • Weighs the pros and cons, including impact to the system, costs, compatibility, ease of use, reliability, and timing parameters.



Requirements:

 

Construction Engineer Skills Required to be considered:



  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry

  • Needs to have a working knowledge of environmental and safety rules and regulations.

  • Must be able to review of Phase I environmental reports, and wetland studies.

  • Interfaces with internal and external departments as well as regulatory agencies by interacting with municipal agencies in the pursuit of building permits, construction inspections, and by finally obtaining certificates of occupancy for network facilities.

  • Develop the skills and ability to represent the company at municipal hearings if needed in support of the Real Estate group.

  • Construction management skills including: CAD/design review, implementation, and project management

  • HVAC, emergency generators, National Electrical Code requirements, environmental requirements including hazardous material, spill prevention, and other regulatory guidelines, general building maintenance, and vendor maintenance

  • Real Estate: Must be able to negotiate leases and easements for communications facilities.

  • Zoning and Permitting: Complete understanding of the zoning and permitting process for new cellular facilities.

  • Microwave experience: Understand the technology for leasing, zoning, permitting, and implementation.

  • Operating systems and applications including: Windows, MS Office

  • Proficient in office computer applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access

  • Advanced troubleshooting skills

  • Advanced problem solving abilities

  • Strong analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Maintain performance level under varying degrees of pressure and uncertainty,

  • Effectively dealing with situations for which few or no guidelines exist

  • Decision making (by making appropriate use of all available information and data; anticipating the future and preparing accordingly; recognizing the impact of decisions upon the rest of the organization; receiving broad guidance; being accountable for broad project results; and being responsible for the leadership of broad programs in support of organizational or area strategies)

  • Leadership skills - causing influence within the group and being recognized as a leader within and outside of his/her work group; training new employees and employees new to the Engineer job function; serving as a positive role model; actively providing coaching and feedback to co-workers; leading large projects; demonstrating a positive, proactive leadership role including taking the initiative to identify matters of importance; resolving problems in a timely fashion; fostering a sense of teamwork; working well in an unstructured environment; engaging in group activities; translating functional/operational goals into team goals; establishing and modifying processes as needed to meet new challenges; demonstrating original thinking, openness to change, and alternative solutions; leading by example; demonstrating company values and policies; initiating action; and assuming ownership for decisions and results

  • Flexible by embracing change; adapting communication style to setting; investigating and- implementing alternate approaches to resolve difficult problems

  • Advanced organizational and planning skills by setting and communicating priorities; anticipating workload impact on resources of both self and team; delegating where appropriate; consistently following up on outstanding items; and providing focus in meetings and discussions

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; applying appropriate grammar; listening attentively; presenting ideas in a logical, compelling manner in both small and large group settings; adjusting to meet the needs of the reader or listener; communicating technical information to a nontechnical audience; and integrating large volumes of information from multiple sources

  • Work flexible hours and support night or weekend work as needed

  • Overnight travel may be required

  • Driver’s license required






Construction Engineer Minimum Education Required:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or Computer Science or equivalent work experience required
