Solutia is a global leader in performance materials and specialty chemicals with about 3300 employees located at over 60 sites around the world.  Company products are used in the architectural, automotive, aviation, energy, solar and electronics industries.  Solutia is the world's largest supplier of vulcanizing chemicals to the rubber industries through its market leading Crystex® brand of insoluble sulfur.  Solutia has an immediate opening for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer in the Crystex Engineering Group within the Technical Specialties business division. 
The Crystex Engineering Group functions as the central engineering resource within the Crystex business and provides project and operational support to seven specialty chemical production facilities located in the Americas, Europe, and Asia/Pacific regions.  The group is responsible for continuously improving the Crystex process with respect to safety, capacity, manufacturing cost, reliability, and product quality.  Engineering group personnel are also involved with research and development, product marketing and commercialization of new products.  The position is based inMonongahela, PA, USA(approximately 15 miles south ofPittsburgh,PA).  Up to 30% travel for the position is required.   ThePittsburgh metropolitan area is highly rated due to a range of available cultural and outdoor activities, several professional sports teams, good school systems, excellent hospitals and universities, and low cost housing.Required Skills
Primary Responsibilities:
* Function as the Operating Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) Champion for the world-wide Crystex business.  Responsibilities will include:
* Work with plant maintenance organizations to develop guidelines, systems, procedures and metrics to improve and track OEE and mechanical reliability while minimizing maintenance cost
* Work with plant maintenance organizations to develop appropriate preventative maintenance inspections, schedules and requirements to reduce premature stationary and rotating equipment failures
* Lead teams to develop engineering solutions to maintenance problems including modification and redesign of stationary and rotating equipment
* Identify and apply appropriate maintenance strategies to minimize impact of failures on business performance.
* Provide technical support/leadership to maintenance personnel on equipment repairs, trouble shooting and reliability problems
* Share maintenance and reliability best practices across the Crystex organization
* Mentorand coach maintenance engineers and technicians.
* Core member of Solutia corporate Mechanical Reliability/Integrity Team
* Assist in updating and maintaining mechanical drawings and records.
* Provide mechanical engineering support for the design and implementation of capital projects including:
* Specification and purchase of stationary and rotating equipment and vessels
* Specification and design of piping systems
* Capital estimating
* Installation, commissioning and startup of equipment and piping systems.Required Experience
Qualifications/Job Requirements:
* Minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
* Minimum of 8 years relevant work experience in the chemical, petroleum or pulp and paper industry.
* Office based work conditions but up to 30% travel to plant locations, including to international sites, is required.
* Experience applying reliability tools, statistical tools and Root Cause failure analysis.
* Working knowledge of compliance and engineering standards.  Working knowledge of ex - US compliance and engineering standards is a plus.
* Working knowledge of SAP maintenance module.
