College for the Logistic Mind

Posted by in Logistics & Transportation

There are quite a few ways to obtain a career in logistics. You can even get degrees in the field. Many of the degrees can be obtained 100% online too, and they are fully accredited. In other words, they are as good and valid as any degree you'd get sitting in the classes with a professor teaching right in front of you.

Many people who are employed don't like the idea of going to school and working full time, but going to school online helps with this. When you go to school online you can set your own schedule and it cuts down on costs as there is an inflation that is higher for campus living than living at home.

This is because there is a mountain of money available for college. Anytime you have a supply of money that out paces natural demand, you get inflation. Student loans create an atmosphere that creates artificial demand. Buy now, pay later always does this.

Even online, you will find that the amount you pay per credit, the unit in which college courses are measured, with 3 credits the standard per class, is not necessarily cheaper. This is why people who go to school often start out at 2 year community colleges where per credit pricing is less. The college credits in state community colleges are often transferable to standard 4 year universities though you need to check with the 4 year university you intend to transfer to before you undertake an expensive college education.

Now you may say that you are too old to go to school, the die has already been cast. Yet, older students or nontraditional students as they are called make up a sizable portion of college students today. I was one myself, graduating at 31 years of age.

The advantages of an education are a higher standard of living and often less backbreaking labor. Though you may incur debt if you take out a student loan, experts rate 3 types of debt as acceptable because of their value to a person's well being. A car loan, a mortgage ( Do this right. It has to be affordable) and a student loan. People with a college degree will make twice as much over a lifetime as people without degrees and individuals with master's degrees earn 3 times as much as people with a high school diploma.

Online schooling has another environmental aspect that is nice in that you can take as few or as many classes as you wish which without paying the transportation costs or having classes interrupting family activity. You also take your classes in a familiar environment, your home.

You don't have to pay back student loans until you have graduated and have the capacity to pay them back. You can obtain a deferment on payments for 6 months at a time if unemployed or underemployed.

Degrees in logistics include but are not limited to logistics management, supply chain management and transportation management which includes the field of maritime logistics. And the good thing is any career experience in the field of logistics from trucking to working in a warehouse is valuable to your future employer.
